Cooper woke me up at 3 a.m. on Sunday morning, coughing and making a choking sound when he tried to breathe. His nose sounded really stuffy, so I brought him downstairs to sit in the rocker-recliner with me and get him back to sleep. We were up every hour, coughing and making strange breathing noises. Thank goodness for the 24 hour on-call triage nurse and weekend sick hours at our pediatrician. I spoke to the nurse at 6 a.m. and he was seen by our Dr. by 9 a.m.
He has a minor upper respiratory infection, the stuffiness is in his head and nose and not his chest, which is good. RSV is going around the community, so we were worried when we heard the strange breathing sounds. We're running the humidifier, have him sleeping in the car seat in the mini co-sleeper so that he's on an incline at night and less stuffy, and using saline to get the gook out of his little nose. Poor thing! I really hope he doesn't inherit the many sinus problems and allergies the two of us have.
So, we have a sick baby here. But a relatively happy and well-fed sick little boy, which puts me more at ease. He's still eating very well and is not in any distress, just a little cranky and extra tired. He's been fighting naps, but is now snoozing away in his swing.
And he has grown quite a bit since our last visit to the pediatrician. A month ago he was 7 lbs, 8 oz and he now weighs in at 10 lbs, 12 oz. The Dr. joked that he looks like he rarely misses a meal! That's our little piggie!
