6 Month Check-Up

Cooper had his six month check-up yesterday and did great. He had three shots and one oral drink and he only cried a little on the second shot. Dr. says he is developmentally advanced for his age, which makes us happy. He's sitting on his own, grasping items (stethoscope was the first thing he grabbed and promptly tried to put into his mouth), transferring objects between his hands, throwing objects far and well from an overhand position (which Dr. said usually occurs around 12 months, after observing Cooper toss one of his toys off of the exam table, right at the door -- I think we might have a pitcher in this little guy after all), has two teeth, is "talking" and making vowel and consonant sounds (babbling"ma, ma, ma" and "ba, ba, ba" lately but doesn't know what he's saying yet), rolling all over the place, eating solids pretty consistently with no reaction to any foods, and recognizes his ba-ba. Dr. said we can move onto stage two baby foods and start combining textures and flavors more. Said we could also try him on a little ice cream as well. Fun for summer! He is also beginning to experience a bit of separation anxiety. Usually when I've been holding him and need to put him down to do something in another room. Dr. said to not give into it and he will get past it, this is the age where it begins. Luckily, it doesn't happen at daycare, otherwise I would probably show up to work every day in tears. Haha. He now weighs 19 pounds and 20 ounces and measured 26 inches long, with 16 inches around for head circumference. He has almost tripled his birth weight and has grown 6.75 inches in length. He maintains the 75-95th percentile for all of his measurements. As Dr. said, "He's a BIG boy!" Cooper's next Dr. visit will be in the fall, for his nine month check-up. We visited with the Dads/Grandpas on Father's Day and had a wonderful time. I think CJ really enjoyed celebrating his first one. We had lunch and ice cream with my family at a new little place in Oneida called Nicky Doodles. I also dragged out my portrait lens and flash and tried to do a little "photo shoot" with Cooper when we got home that evening. Enjoy the pictures.
